I Killed A Lizard Today
August 14th, 2008. As Sara wrote about earlier, I killed a lizard today. It was an accident, but I still feel guilty. Here’s how it happened:
We’re heading to the Radisson to lounge around at the pool for guests only. We’ve invented this story about meeting our friends “Jill and Brad” just in case security asks. Anyways, in order to get to the Radisson you have to walk by some people hawking time shares. In order to avoid one of these pushy salespeople, I decided to take a shortcut through the grass.
The shortcut was right next to the street, and as I was walking in the grass I startled a little lizard. Frightened, it bolted into the street, right in front of an oncoming car. It got ran over and then laid in the street, twitching.
The lizard I killed looked a lot like this one. It was bright green and pretty small.
It would have been one thing if I meant to kill it, or if it was self defense, or if it was just an unavoidable occurrence, but none of those things are true. I decided to walk through the grass instead of walking on the sidewalk like everyone else, and this is what happened.
I killed a lizard today, and I feel bad.
