Traveling to Atlanta
August 3rd, 2008. A special thanks to my parents for volunteering to drive us to the airport LaQuinta last night. It’s a long, long way from Roxborough to DIA.
We stayed at the LaQuinta by DIA last night because our flights took off early this morning (Sara’s was real early). It was just easier.
The first leg of our Aruba trip involves a short flight to Atlanta and an overnight stay. In my “infinite wisdom” I decided that we should stay at the cheapest Atlanta airport hotel I could find online.

The hotel was sort of like a 70′s cop show – a little rough, a little seedy looking, and lacking in alot of the basic elements that make things nice. For example:
- No elevator. Stairs are fine – no problem at all. But what hotel that charges $89 a night doesn’t have an elevator?
- 70′s stying. I like the retro theme – I really do. But do the carpets and paint have to be original 70s? Couldn’t they just look old?
- Wet spot on the floor by the air conditioner. There’s nothing like the feeling of your foot feeling damp as your sock quickly becomes soaked from standing in a hidden pool of carpet water. Eeek.
- Bent shower curtain rod. It was pretty funny – the rod was bent downwards, so when you pulled the curtain to the edges it just fell towards the center. About 60% of the rod was used.
It wasn’t all bad – the high points:
- The room was quite large, and everything was clean.
- The man that worked the front desk when we arrived was super nice.
- I bought a brand of root beer from the soda machine that I’ve never had in my life.
- The A/C worked just fine and we slept great.
Not too shabby. Still, for $90, I expect more. It’s my own fault – I could have worked a little harder on finding a good deal. It just wasn’t a priority between moving and selling and getting ready for Aruba.
Tomorrow morning, 10:25am EDT, we head for ARUBA!
